There are moments in hospitality when you can feel something special taking shape long before the first guest arrives. Last week was one of those moments as members of our team travelled to Shambala Private Game Reserve to experience the progress being made on the new Zulu Camp, currently being rebuilt from the ground up ahead of its opening in February.

While construction is still underway, the vision is already clear. The new Zulu Camp represents a significant new chapter for Shambala, bringing together contemporary safari design, elevated guest experiences, wellness, conservation and the privacy that has long defined this remarkable reserve. The rebuilt lodge will feature luxury and superior accommodation options, creating an intimate and exclusive retreat within the heart of the Waterberg.

The site visit formed part of a broader pre-opening programme, bringing together operational, commercial, guest experience and marketing teams to align on the future of the property and begin preparing for opening day. Walking through the emerging guest spaces, viewing plans and renders, and discussing the guest journey firsthand provided valuable insight into what visitors can expect when the camp launches.

For many of the team members, this was an opportunity to move beyond plans on paper and experience the destination in person. From exploring the camp's layout to understanding how each touchpoint will contribute to the guest experience, the visit marked an important step in ensuring that every detail is thoughtfully considered before the first arrival.

More than a new lodge, Zulu Camp is being positioned as a contemporary expression of the Shambala experience. Alongside game drives, boat cruises and incredible stargazing experiences, guests will have access to wellness facilities, family-friendly experiences, conservation initiatives and immersive activities that connect them to both the landscape and local community.

As the countdown to opening continues, excitement is building across the team. The foundations are being laid not only for a new lodge, but for unforgettable guest experiences, meaningful conservation impact and a renewed chapter in Shambala's story.
